Voylla pays a tribute to the age-old tradition craft of Ajrakh that dates back to the time of Indus Valley Civilisation. The word is derived from an Arabic word ‘Azrakh’. Traditionally, Ajrak is the name of the fine art of block printing done on a cloth with deep crimson red and indigo blue background. The craft only uses natural colours (vegetable dyes) for its making. Hues of red, yellow, blue and black are mostly used with symmetrical patterns in the background interspersed with the brilliance of white spaces that make the designs stand out without distracting from its natural ethos.
It’s one of the most highly valued crafts and is perfected over time among the Sindhi community and Kutch in Gujarat. Definitely a source of inspiration for those who like to balance traditional with the contemporary.
The collection is subtle yet eye-catching. Its hues, elegant details, enamelled highlights, tassels and paisley and floral motifs come together to create masterpieces so gorgeous that you can’t help but fall head over heels in love with them. When you’re wearing a piece of Ajrakh Jewelry, it’s not merely an earring, a haath phool or necklace; you’ve actually adorned yourself with a piece of poetry. Each piece tells a beautiful story.
Voylla designer Pragya has taken artistic notes from this unique craft to design haath phools, collared necklaces, earrings and pendants which are an amalgamation of minimalism and elegance. Steeped in tradition and chic in its demeanour, the collection is perfect for the modern woman who loves to experiment with her tradition.
Ajrakh blends perfectly with any outfit you wish to wear. From casuals to formals, the paisleys and floral motifs embellished jewelry pieces are perfect for lounging at a heritage resort. Teamed with palazzos or maxis, skirts or even hand woven sarees, each piece of artistic creation in this collection is a beautiful verse crafted in metal. The collection offers to look rich decadents with subtlety.
